Professor Blasey Ford Asks For Investigation Into Alleged Attempted Rape By Judge Kavanaugh, Is Met With Resistance

Posted on September 21, 2018September 21, 2018 by Jennifer McMurray

Professor Christine Blasey Ford, who has alleged that Judge Kavanaugh attempted to rape her when she was 16 and he was 17, has been asked to speak on Monday, before Judge Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing.

However, through her attorney, Professor Blasey Ford has asked for an FBI investigation into the alleged crime before any hearing. Her attorney states, “A full investigation by law enforcement officials will ensure that the crucial facts and witnesses in this matter are assessed in a non-partisan manner, and that the Committee is fully informed before conducting any hearing or making any decisions.”

Her attorney also stated that despite a “stunning amount of support from her community”, she has “been the target of vicious harassment and even death threats” and has been forced to leave her home.

Professor Blasey Ford’s attorney, Lisa Banks, stated, “asking her to come forward in four or five days and sit before the Judiciary Committee on national TV is not a fair process. If they care about doing the right thing here and treating this seriously as they have said, then they will do the right thing and they will properly investigate this, and she will work with them in that investigation and also to share her story with the committee.”

She is facing sharp pushback over that request. Senator Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, stated on Twitter that, “The responsibility falls to us. Chairman Chuck Grassley has moved our committee vote to accommodate Dr. Ford’s lawyer’s offer on TV yesterday to have her client testify before the Judiciary Committee. We should proceed as planned.”

On Twitter, President Trump responded to Professor Blasey Ford’s request, stating “I have no doubt that, if the attack on Dr. Ford was as bad as she says, charges would have been immediately filed with local Law Enforcement Authorities by either her or her loving parents. I ask that she bring those filings forward so that we can learn date, time, and place! The radical left lawyers want the FBI to get involved NOW. Why didn’t someone call the FBI 36 years ago?”

He then further went on accusing the Democrats of obstructing, resisting, and delaying the hearing because of the timing in which Professor Blasey Ford’s accusation was released, stating on Twitter that “Senator Feinstein and the Democrats held the letter for months, only to release it with a bang after the hearings were OVER – done very purposefully to Obstruct & Resist & Delay. Let her testify, or not, and TAKE THE VOTE!”

It is not at all uncommon for rapes to go unreported. According to Department of Justice statistics, as of 2016 only 23 percent of rapes or sexual assaults were reported to the police.

Anita Ford, who had accused Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas of sexual abuse in 1991. She testified at a panel of six white men, led by then-Senator Joe Biden, D-Delaware, who asked graphic questions about the allegations and were dismissive of her claims, appeared on Good Morning America to ask that the FBI investigation into Professor Blasey Ford’s allegations be allowed to go forward before Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing.

Ms. Ford stated, “The American public really is expecting something more. We are really under the impression that the Senate doesn’t take this seriously and doesn’t see this as part of their core responsibility.”

Former Vice President Joe Biden stated that he regretted his part in the Anita Hill hearing, stating, “what happened was she got victimized again during the process.” On Professor Blasey Ford accusation, he stated that “what should happen is the woman should be given the benefit of the doubt and not be, you know, abused again by the system. It’s important that people understand how hard it is to come forward. I always say to men who say, ‘Why so hard?’ — how ’bout if you were abused? … Would you want to relive that?”
